Bologna, Italy: From 11th to 16th June at the Teatro Comunale, renowned Bologna-based tenor Cristiano Cremonini will play the role of Marcello Mastroianni in the national premiere of Giorgio Battistelli’s contemporary opera “Divorzio all’Italiana” (An Italian-style Divorce), which is a tribute to praised director Pietro Germi who directed a film in 1961 of the same name winning an Oscar for best screenplay and the prize for the best comedy at the Cannes film festival.
This opera is a depiction of Sicily in the Fifties. The plot notably involves a crime of honour. The story blends passion, jealousy and betrayal, portraying a grotesque, ironic and cutting situation.
The director of the opera is David Pountney whereas the director of the orchestra is French national Daniel Kawka.
